News and Updates
July 1, 2016
California enacts five new gun laws making it more difficult for law abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment Right to own or possess firearms.
On July 1, 2016, Governor Jerry Brown, (D), signed into law five new bills significantly restricting gun ownership in California. The new gun laws will take effect January 1, 2017.
Among the bills signed by the governor is SB 1446 which bans the possession of magazines that hold more than ten rounds. The new law will require California gun owners who previously and legally, (grandfathered), owned large capacity magazine to sell them to non residents, take them out of California or turn them in to the police.
In addition, next year, California law will require background checks for all individuals purchasing ammunition. The law will also create a state database, registry or list of citizens who own and possess ammunition.
The governor also signed Senate Bill 880, which again will take effect January 1, 2017, which will ban bullet buttons on guns with detachable magazines.
Effective January 1, 2017, under Assembly Bill 1511, lending guns to family members who have not completed a background check will be illegal.
Finally, AB1695, will prevent citizens who have knowingly made false reports on the loss or theft of a gun from possessing firearms for ten years..
